Help & Getting Started

Everything you need to get the most out of ProjectFi. From creating your account to running Monte Carlo simulations.

First time here?

Getting started

You can be up and running with your first FIRE projection in under five minutes.

1

Create your free account

Head to the sign up page and create an account with your email or Google. No credit card required. You'll receive a confirmation email to verify your address.

2

Complete the onboarding wizard

After signing in you'll be guided through a short wizard to enter your financial details: age, income, expenses, super balance, non-super investments, and optionally property and mortgage details.

If you have a partner, toggle the “couple” option to model both timelines together with staggered retirement ages.

3

View your FIRE projection

Once onboarding is complete you'll land on your dashboard. This shows your projected FIRE date, a year-by-year net worth chart (with super vs non-super breakdown), and key summary cards including your savings rate, FIRE number, and years to FIRE.

4

Fine-tune with sliders

Use the assumption sliders on the dashboard to adjust expected investment returns, inflation rate, income growth, and target retirement age. The projection updates in real time as you move the sliders.

Feature guide

What you can do with ProjectFi

FIRE Projection

Your dashboard shows a net worth projection from today to age 95, broken into three phases: working (accumulating wealth), pre-super retirement (living off non-super assets before preservation age), and post-super retirement (drawing from super and potentially the Age Pension).

The chart includes +/-2% return variability bands so you can see how sensitive your plan is to market performance.

Monte Carlo Simulation

Pro

Run 1,000 simulations of your financial future with randomised annual returns. You'll see a fan chart with confidence bands (top end, median, worst case) and a histogram showing how many of those 1,000 futures result in early, on-target, late, or never reaching FIRE.

Free accounts get 3 lifetime runs. Pro accounts get unlimited runs.

Scenario Modelling

Pro

Create unlimited “what if” scenarios to compare different life choices side by side. Each scenario can override your baseline assumptions: income, expenses, return rates, retirement age, and more. Free accounts get 1 scenario.

Add life events like career breaks, salary changes, property purchases, or extra super contributions to see how they shift your FIRE date. Compare scenarios in a chart or table view.

Goals & Tracking

Set financial goals (emergency fund, house deposit, FIRE number) and track progress against them. Link goals to specific asset types to see automatic progress updates from your monthly snapshots.

Record monthly net worth snapshots to see your actual trajectory over time. View your history as a line chart, pie chart, or bar chart breakdown.

My Finances

Update your financial profile at any time from the My Finances page. Changes to income, expenses, super balance, non-super investments, or property details are reflected immediately in your projection.

All monetary values are stored securely and used only for your projections. ProjectFi never connects to your bank accounts or shares your data.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is ProjectFi financial advice?

No. ProjectFi is a planning and modelling tool only. The projections are estimates based on the inputs you provide and general assumptions about tax, super, and pension rules. They do not constitute personal financial advice. Please consult a licensed financial adviser before making investment decisions.

How accurate are the projections?

ProjectFi uses current ATO tax brackets, real SG rates, concessional/non-concessional super caps, Division 293, HECS/HELP thresholds, and Age Pension means tests. The engine is tested against hand-calculated expected values.

That said, projections over decades are inherently uncertain. Market returns, tax policy, and personal circumstances will change. Use projections as directional guidance, not guarantees. The Monte Carlo simulation helps you understand the range of possible outcomes.

See the methodology page for full details on how calculations work and their limitations.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Your data is stored in a Supabase database with row-level security enabled on every table, so you can only access your own data. All connections are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). ProjectFi never connects to your bank accounts and does not share your data with third parties.

Can I use ProjectFi on my phone?

Yes. ProjectFi is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops. The dashboard, charts, and editors are all optimised for mobile screens down to 375px wide.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Nothing. Your data stays exactly as it is. Cancelling your Pro subscription reverts your account to the free plan at the end of your billing period. You keep access to your profile, projections, and any scenarios or snapshots you've created. You can re-subscribe at any time to regain Pro features.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Go to Settings → Danger Zone and follow the account deletion process. This permanently removes your account and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.

How does couples modelling work?

Toggle the couple option during onboarding (or in My Finances) to add your partner's details. ProjectFi models both timelines independently with separate incomes, super balances, and preservation ages, then combines them into a household FIRE target. You can set different retirement ages for each partner.

What tax rules does ProjectFi include?

Australian income tax brackets (FY2025-26), Low Income Tax Offset (LITO), Medicare Levy, Medicare Levy Surcharge, HECS/HELP income-contingent repayments, superannuation guarantee (SG) at 12%, concessional and non-concessional contribution caps, Division 293, preservation age rules, Age Pension assets test and income test with deeming rates, and capital gains tax with the 50% discount.

For couples, MLS uses the ATO family thresholds. ProjectFi does not currently ask for dependent-child details, so it does not apply the additional threshold uplift that starts from the second MLS-dependent child.

Can I get a refund?

If you're not satisfied within the first 14 days, contact us for a full refund. After 14 days, you can cancel at any time and retain access until the end of your billing period, but refunds are not available for partial periods. Lifetime purchases are eligible for a refund within 14 days of purchase.
